Parliamentary Committee Series 41/2019 - Open Committee Meetings Monday 28th October

BILL WATCH

PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEES SERIES 41/2019

[25th October 2019]

Two Open Committee Meetings on Monday 28th October

Next week’s Parliamentary committee meetings will be on Monday and Tuesday only.  This is because MPs will from Wednesday onwards be occupied with other business – travelling to and attending the Pre-Budget Seminar at Victoria Falls on next year’s National Budget.  The period from Wednesday to Monday 4th November has been set aside for the purpose.  And yesterday both Houses adjourned until Tuesday 12th November, also to accommodate the Pre-Budget Seminar.

Parliamentarians have already been working for several weeks in preparation for their Budget duties.  Portfolio committees have held meetings to ascertain the views of the Ministries, the public and stakeholders on the policy direction and content of next year’s Budget.  On Monday 21st October MPs had the benefit of a Pre-Budget Briefing in advance of the Pre-Budget Seminar at Victoria Falls.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development is due to present the 2020 National Budget on Thursday 14th November.

Two Important Open Meetings – (1) Command Agriculture Payments

(2) Access to Safe and Clean Water

There will be only two committee meetings open to the public next week – one on Monday morning and the other on Monday afternoon.  The meetings are concerned with matters of national importance.

The meetings will be held at Parliament in Harare on the dates and at the times and venues within the Parliament building indicated below.

Members of the public may attend these meetings – but as observers only, not as participants, i.e. they may observe and listen but not speak. If attending, please use the entrance to Parliament on Kwame Nkrumah Ave between 2nd and 3rd Streets. Please note that IDs must be produced.

The details given in this bulletin are based on the latest information from Parliament. But, as there are sometimes last-minute changes to the meetings schedule, persons wishing to attend should avoid disappointment by checking with the committee clerk that the meeting concerned is still on and open to the public. Parliament’s telephone numbers are Harare 2700181 and 2252940/1.

Reminder: Members of the public, including Zimbabweans in the Diaspora, can at any time send written submissions to Parliamentary committees by email addressed to clerk@parlzim.gov.zw or by letter posted to the Clerk of Parliament, P.O. Box 298, Causeway, Harare or delivered at Parliament’s Kwame Nkrumah Avenue entrance in Harare.
