Indigenisation Act Amendments Are Now Law

It was expected that amendments to the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act would have been made in Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Amendment Bill.

Instead they were tucked away in the annual Finance Act, which deals mainly with taxation and as usual was passed by Parliament with little debate.

SI 2018-028 Establishment of Beitbridge Municipal Council: Municipal Area and Wards, Name and Effective Date

This statutory instrument was gazetted on 9th March 2018. 

It is a proclamation by the President abolishing the town of Beitbridge and its town council and establishing in its place, with effect from 9th March 2018, the Beitbridge Municipality and Beitbridge Municipal Council.  The council area/municipal area is described in a Schedule to the statutory instrument, as are six wards; all these areas appear to be the same as the areas of the former town council and its wards.

Veritas Draft Electoral Amendment Bill - updated 2018

This Bill was prepared by Veritas as a more comprehensive alternative to the Government's Electoral Amendment Bill 2017, currently going through Parliament (March 2018).

This Bill will amend the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] to align it more closely with the Constitution and to facilitate the holding of free and fair elections.  The main focus of the amendments are the following:
