General Election Proclaimed

Today, the 30th May 2018, President Mnangagwa gazetted a proclamation setting the dates for the forthcoming general election.  The proclamation can be accessed on the Veritas website [link]

In Proclamation 2 of 2018 (SI 83 of 2018), the President fixed the following dates:

Bills with President for Assent

Two Bills were sent to the President on 24th May for his assent and gazetting as Acts:

·        Electoral Amendment Bill

·        Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (Debt Assumption) Bill.

Both Acts could be gazetted any time this week. 

Adverse Report on the Parliamentary Legal Committee on the Agricultural Marketing Authority Regulations, 2017

In pursuit of its constitutional mandate as provided In section 152(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Parliamentary Legal Committee (herein referred to as "the Committee) considered the Agricultural Marketing Authority (Command Agriculture Scheme for Domestic Crop, Livestock and Fisheries Production) Regulations, 2017.

GN 2018 - 359c - ZEC Notice fixing Date of Commencement of Section 42 of Electoral Amendment Act 2012 (No. 3 of 2012) - Legalisation of Polling Station Voters Rolls and Polling Station Voting

This notice brings into operation with effect from 22nd May 2018 the provisions of section 42 of the Electoral Amendment Act 2012 for polling station voters roll and polling station voting.  For an explanation of the need for this notice, see Election Watch 14/2018 of 19th May 2018 entitled Polling Station Voting Still Needs to be Legalised [link].
