SI 2019-124 Customs and Excise (Suspension) (Amendment) Regulations 2019 (No. 212)

IT is hereby notifi ed that the Minister of Finance and Economic Development has, in terms of section 235 as read with section 120 of the Customs and Excise Act [Chapter 23:02], made the following regulations:—
1. These regulations may be cited as the Customs and Excise (Suspension) (Amendment) Regulations, 2019 (No. 212).

ZHRC 2018 Harmonised Election Report

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) monitored and assessed the 2018 harmonized elections held on the 30th of July 2018. The primary objective was to ensure that the elections were conducted freely and fairly in accordance with national Iegal frameworks, and regional and International lnstruments that advance the observance and respect for human rights and freedoms of all citizens.

On 31st January this year the then chairperson and all the eight members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission resigned.   

SI 2019-126 - New Monetary Limits for Civil Jurisdiction of Magistrates Court

This statutory instrument prescribes the monetary limits of the civil jurisdiction of magistrates courts in RTGS dollars, repealing and replacing the previous limits expressed in US dollars [SI 163/2012].

The new limits came into force on 7th June 2019 [the date they were gazetted] and are as follows:

For purposes of section 11(b)(i), (ii), (iii) and (vii) of the Magistrates Court Act ["the Act"]

SI 2019-123 - By-Election for Lupane East - Proclamation 2 of 2019

This statutory instrument contains the Presidential Proclamation 2/2019 ordering a by-election in the Lupane East constituency to fill the vacancy in the Nationa Assembly caused by the death of Hon Sithembile Gumbo on 5th April.

Nomination day will be Friday 14th June at the Western Commonage Magistrates Court in Bulawayo.

Polling day will be Saturday 3rd August.

Consumer Protection Bill, 2018 - Committee Stage Amendments made by the National Assembly - 30th May 2019

The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, when winding up the Second Reading debate on the Bill in the National Assembly on behalf of the Minister of Industry and Commrce, said the main change to the Bill proposed by the Portfolio Committee in its report would be accepted - namely, for the Consumer Protection Agency to be a transformed from a department in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to a fully-fledged commission called the Consumer Protection Commission.
