Virtual Committee Meetings Open to Public Attendance

Monday 1st to Thursday 4th March

There will be virtual committee meetings open to virtual public attendance during the week ending Friday 5th March.  The meetings are listed below.  [Other Parliamentary committees will also hold virtual meetings but in closed session.]  

Members of the public interested in attending the meetings as observers – please send an email request to nyawol@parlzim.gov.zw giving your full names, organisation you represent and your email address to enable Parliament to communicate the log in details.

There will also be public hearings on Monday 1st and Friday 5th  March on the Centre for Education, Innovation, Research and Development Bill; details of these hearings have already been in the separate Parliamentary Committees Series bulletin 3/2021 [link].  

Monday 1st March at 10 am

Portfolio Committee:  Mines and Mining Development

Oral evidence from the Minister of Mines and Mining Development  on progress made on the following issues:

1.   The Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill

2.   Addressing mining accidents.

Monday 1st March at 2 pm

Portfolio Committee: Transport and Infrastructural Development

Oral evidence from the new Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development [Hon Mhona] on the  Minister’s vision and plans to improve performance of parastatals under the Ministry.

Tuesday 2nd March at 10 am

Portfolio Committee:  Local Government, Public Works and National Housing

Oral evidence from the  Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Public Works on:

1.   Policies, programmes and legislation in place to curb the use of wetlands for housing development;

2.   The Ministry’s response to issues by Greater Hwange Residents Trust on its petition on the local governance set-up of Hwange’s Board;

3.   Civil Protection Unit’s involvement in mining disasters.

Thursday 4th February at 10 am

Portfolio Committee: Energy and Power Development

Oral evidence from the following:

1.   Ministry of Energy and Power Development on policy direction for the fuel and power sectors;

2.   Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority [ZESA] and Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority [ZERA] board  on strategies being put in place to enhance the capacity of the two entities..

Portfolio Committee:  Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services

Oral evidence from the  (1) Permanent Secretary for Defence and War Veterans Affairs and (2) War Veterans League on the ZIPRA War Veterans. Petition to amend the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Act.  The Act was enacted by Parliament only last year and is available on the Veritas website at this link.

Portfolio Committee:  Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation

Oral evidence from the  Sports and Recreation Commission on its preparedness to resume sporting activities in Zimbabwe in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Portfolio Committee:  Budget, Finance and Economic Development

Oral evidence from the  Minister of Finance and Economic Development on COVID-19 funding for the years 2020 and 2021 and the economic stimulus packages rolled out to various sectors.

Thematic Committee: Peace and Security

Oral evidence from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works on the state of disaster management preparedness.
