Public Interviews of Candidates for Six ZEC Vacancies:

Friday 17th June 2022

This bulletin is based on a notice published in the media by the Parliament of Zimbabwe’s Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO), which is mandated by sections 237 and 238 of the Constitution to nominate candidates for appointment by the President to serve as Commissioners on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). 

As required by the Constitution, the CSRO has already published advertisements calling on the public to nominate persons to be considered for appointment to six vacancies in the membership of the Commission that will arise when the present commissioners reach the end of their term of office on 6th July 2022.  The six commissioners whose terms of office are due to expire on 6th July Kazembe, Daniel Chigaru, Sibongile Ndlovu, Netsai Mushonga, Dr Ngoni Kundidzora and Faith Sebata; the only candidate seeking re-appointment is Dr Kundidzora.

The CSRO received seventy two (72) nominations, fifty (50) males and twenty-two (22) females by the closing date, 11th February 2022.  It met on Friday 20th May 2022 to consider the suitability of the nominees to serve on ZEC. 

The thirty-two (32) shortlisted candidates listed in the table below will undergo the public interviews required by  the Constitution on Friday 17th June 2022 in the Senate Chamber, Ground Floor, Parliament Building, corner Third Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, Harare.

Attendance by members of the public

The CSRO cordially extends an open invitation to all members of the public and interested stakeholders to follow and witness the interviews on 17th June:

  • on television;
  • through Facebook live on Parliament of Zimbabwe;
  • on Parliament’s Twitter handle @ParliamentZim; or
  • as to be advised through Parliament’s website www.parlzim.co.zw .

Information for Candidates

All the candidates are advised to be at Parliament Building by no later than 07:30 hrs on the day of the interviews and proceed to the National Assembly Chamber.  All candidates should be seated in the National Assembly Chamber by 08:00 hours. The interviews will be conducted in line with COVID-19 regulations and protocols.  All unvaccinated candidates will be required to bring a negative COVID-19 certificate issued within 48 hours prior to the interviews.
