Open Committee Meetings : Monday 29th May to Friday 2nd June

The five committee meetings listed below for this week ending on Friday 2nd  June will be open to attendance by members of the public as observers only.  Members of the public proposing to attend a physical meeting at Parliament should use the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue entrance to Parliament near Third Street and remember that IDs will be required to gain entry.   

NOTE  Two of the meetings are exclusively virtual and three are hybrid of virtual and physical meetings. There is an explanation later in this bulletin of how to attend a meeting virtually.  

Monday 29th May at 10 am

Portfolio Committee: Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services

Oral evidence from the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage on:

  1. The petition from Women Coalition of Zimbabwe on the review of the Trafficking in Persons Act to include a definition of “trafficking” in line with international instruments;
  2. The Ministry’s Fourth Quarter Budget Performance Report;
  3. An update on the current mobile registration exercise.

Portfolio Committee:Transport and Infrastructural Development

Oral evidence from the Drivers Association of Zimbabwe on the recognition of drivers as professional and the recruitment of drivers from established associations.

Tuesday 30th May at 9.30 am

Portfolio Committee: Local Government

Oral evidence from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities on issued raised in their 2022 Budget Performance Reports.

Hybrid of physical and virtual meeting.

Thursday 1st June at 10 am

Portfolio Committee: Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation

Oral evidence from the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation on measures taken to ensure lifting of ban on football by FIFA.

Hybrid of physical and virtual meeting.

Venue: National Assembly Chamber.

Thematic Committee: Indigenisation and Empowerment

Oral evidence from the Minister of Industry and Commerce on the status of the Economic Empowerment Bill.

How to Follow Virtual and Hybrid Open Meetings on the ZOOM Platform

Parliament has reverted to the practice of holding some committee meetings as virtual or hybrid meetings.   

For assistance in following the proceedings in virtual and hybrid open meetings on the ZOOM platform as observers, interested persons should contact the following for the meeting ID and passcode: Parliament’s Public Relations Office, Tel: +263 242 700181–6  or  +263 242 252936–55.

Matters of General Interest about Parliamentary Committees

Fact Finding Visits to Selected Schools on the Implementation of the NATIONAL E-LEARNING STRATEGY

Two teams from the Joint Portfolio Committees on Primary and Secondary Education and ICT, Postal and Courier Services will be paying fact finding visits from Monday 29th May to Friday 2nd June.  Team A will be visiting a school in each of Murombedzi, Mberengwa, Bulawayo, Gwanda and Nkayi.  Team B will be visiting a school in each of Rushinga, Harare, Hwedza, Marange and Chiredzi.
