Opening of New Parliament Tuesday 3rd October

In Proclamation 7 of 2023 [link] the President announced that the first session of the new Parliament will take place this coming Tuesday, the 3rd October, at midday in the new Parliament building at Mount Hampden.

At the opening of Parliament, Senators and Members of the National Assembly hold a joint sitting to hear the President:

·      setting out the Government’s legislative agenda for the new Parliament, and

·      delivering a State of the Nation address in terms of section 140 of the Constitution.

Following the President’s address both Houses normally adjourn to a later date, when the business of Parliament will begin.
