Press Statement by the Hon VP and Minister of Health and Child Care on Outbreaks of Covid-19 in learning Institutions in Zimbabwe

As of 16 April 2021, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported cumulatively 37 534 cases with 34 981 recoveries (93.2% recovery rate) and 1 551 deaths. Currently the country has vaccinated 269 732 (1st dose) and 34 969 (2nd dose).

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would like to advise its valued stakeholders that it is intensifying adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures against COVID-19 and other Influenza-like Illnesses in all schools.

STATEMENT ON ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NGOs

Veritas deplores the hate speech and the toxic divisiveness that has erupted in the news media and social media over accusations made against some prominent NGOs.

It is most unfortunate that this has happened just before elections, when not only the NGOs concerned but all civil society fear that their role in monitoring and promoting free and fair elections and assisting victims of election-based violence may be jeopardised.
