Two Veritas Court Cases on Elections to be Heard on Monday 18th June

in High Court, Harare

This coming Monday, 18th June, the High Court in Harare is due to hear two cases brought by Veritas to improve the conduct of the coming general election.  

Chebundo Election Petition - Judgment of 24 April 2014 - Petition dismissed

The applicant herein (Matambanadzo), standing on a ZANU-PF ticket in the harmonised elections held on 31 July, 2013 for the Kwekwe Central Constituency, beat the respondent herein (Chebundo} who was standing on an MDC-T ticket.

Aggrieved by the electoral outcome, Chebundo filed an electoral petition under cover of case number E. C 34/13 seeking the following relief:

"1. lt is declared that Respondent was not duly elected as a member of the House of

Presidential Election Petition to the Con Court

NOTICE OF ELECTION PETITION

BE  PLEASED  TO  TAKE  NOTICE  THAT   an   Application   is  hereby  made   to   the Constitutional Court  for  an  order   in  terms of the  order/draft  order annexed to  this application on the grounds that:-

a)   The  Applicant was a candidate in the  presidential election held  on the  31st of July 2013.

b)   1st Respondent was  declared the  winner of that  election on Saturday 03 August 2013.

Tsvangirai Affidavit Explaining Presidential Election Petition Withdrawal

I, the undersigned,, MORGAN RICHARD TSVANGIRAI do hereby make oath and state that:

1.   It is with deep regret and sadness that I find myself having to depose to this affidavit, which I present for  purposes of explaining the reasons behind the withdrawal of the Election Petition just filed by my legal practitioners at my specific instance.

2.   It is common cause that I filed a Petition challenging the outcome of the Presidential Election in tenns of its processes and outcome.
