ZHRC Annual Report 2022

The ninth Annual Report of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission provides an overview of the activities of the Commission in the past year carried out in line with its constitutional mandate as provided for in section 243 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Veritas Model Bills Implementing s 210 of Constitution

On 23rd September 2020 the Constitutional Court issued a court order giving the Government 45 days within which to produce a Bill for an Act to implement section 210 of the Constitution.  Section 210 states that an Act of Parliament must provide an effective and independent mechanism for receiving and investigating complaints from members of the public about misconduct on the part of members of the security services, and for remedying any harm caused by such misconduct.   The order was given in the case of Chironga and Mahiya v Minister of

The Standing Rules and Orders Committee of the Parliament of Zimbabwe is mandated in terms of sections 237 and 243 of the Constitution, to nominate candidates for appointment by his Excellency the President to serve as Commissioners on the Zimbabwe Human Rights  Commission provided for in Chapter 12  Part 3 of the Constitution.

Zimbabwe Ratifies Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty [CTBT]

On 13th February Zimbabwe ratified this treaty, which was signed on its behalf in 1999.  On 14th February a national seminar on CTBT took place in Harare.
